Yamaha has added embedded Linux to the electronic "player piano" add-on it offers with some models. With version 3.0 of the Mark IV firmware, MontaVista Linux controls the 333MHz AMD Geode-based piano, enabling new interface possibilities, acoustic recording, and interaction with Web-based services.

Alpha 6 is the last alpha release of Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10. I wanted to give it a try on my Dell Inspiron 1150 notebook to see how far it had come along. My Dell has an Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor, 1 Gig of RAM, and 80 Gigabytes of hard disk space. The Ubuntu release schedule states the final release date for Intrepid Ibex is October 30th, 2008.
The Netherlands Patent Office is the first government authority to implement the ‘Nederland Open in Connection' action plan and to switch a large number of its ICT systems to what is known as open source software. As the first step, Frank Heemskerk, minister of Foreign Affairs launched the new website of the Netherlands Patent Office today, which is based on open source software. By the end of 2009, the entire office environment, including desktop computer systems and the relationship management system will be running on the basis of open source software.
