Summary: Very disappointing news coverage from Gavin Clarke at The Register, who not only promotes non-existent Microsoft products but also turns Red Hat from a victim into an abuser
THE
reality behind Vista 7 never amazes; as predicted, there are bumps on the road, Microsoft is shamelessly faking numbers of sales, and
people dare to complain about the operating system even in the 'mainstream press'.
The latest example is from IDG News Service. From the summary:
Windows 7 Upgrade Troubles
[...]
● User idiocy resulted in my ignoring documented restrictions on installing Windows 7 onto a Windows XP platform.● Microsoft's decision to ignore Windows XP systems for upgrades may be revenge for the installed base's overwhelming refusal to upgrade from XP to Vista.● Microsoft's diagnostic program failed to alert me to a major incompatibility on MAIN that prevents installation (so far) of Windows 7.● Microsoft provided no supported tool under Windows 7 of reading backups created under Windows XP.● A consistent business continuity plan paid off in zero downtime and zero data loss.
Never mind all that. Microsoft has already moved on to
Vista 8 vapourware, which is currently coming from Mary-Jo Foley and Gavin Clarke in
a new audiocast which The Register is promoting heavily. The other Microsoft PR people
brag about the company getting children addicted. Proprietary lollipops for all? First one's free!
Anyway, watch how Microsoft booster Gavin Clarke is
daemonising Red Hat at The Register, turning the victim into the "bad guy", thanks to Microsoft spin. It's about a subject that we mentioned last night in [
1,
2]. It is worth remembering that
Novell and Microsoft pay The Register to promote their collaboration/relationship.
"Microsoft attacks Red Hat via Novell proxy," is how
Slated summarised the poor article from The Register, further saying:
Today's news, but the crux of the matter started last November, and I missed it.
Apparently Novell is poaching Red Hat's customers by offering support for RHEL at a discount, with a "migration service" to SuSE Linux Enterprise...
I wonder how much Microsoft Marketing Assistance€® de Icaza & Co. get for that little stunt?
They have been trying this for about a year, to a greater or lesser extent. The "news" is probably about those letters of complaint. They came from Spain.

What RH is saying, is that even though they use software written by thousands of people, under a free license they still want commercial control of RHEL.
I can imagine you ROY, if MS had of told 3rd party supporters that they are not able or allowed to support MS products.
This is something very serious for FOSS, that someone with a distro can exercise rights over who is able to maintain that distro!.
So ROY, how is this "software freedom".
So how does this apply to someone who uses Red Hat EL and employs internal support staff? they are not paid by Red Hat and RH makes no money from them. SO is that illegal as well?
Or ROY, dont you care to answer those harder questions?
Ofcourse not, this is about Novell, and you're stupid hate for them.
What if Debian did the same with their distro, and told Cononical that they were not allowed to provide support for the kernel code supplied by debian.
What if Linus Torvalds did the same thing, stating that ONLY HIS company was allowed to maintain the kernel ?
But again, facts and truth are not you're strong point are they ROY.
But sure go for it, make Red Hat look like a bunch of morons, who are claiming owernship for a product that they clearly DO NOT OWN.
What is RH scared they will not have a 'monopoly' on RHEL support, and that other people will benifit from all that code written NOT by Red Hat they THEY USE.
This is very serious, and as usual you miss the point completly ROY, why is it you appear to have such a weak knowledge of anything relating to FOSS OR the GPL ?
But make youreself look very bad, and damage FOSS, RH and all the developers who worked on creating linux, that RH freely use and now want to restrict who can fix or use 'their' product !
At least with MS you know you can get anyone to maintain you're system, we are NOT restricted to getting support from MS we can get it from whoever we like :)
So restrict youreselves more and more, create more and more divisions in FOSS that will surly help.
All you're doing here is pointing out the severe limitation faced if you choose to use Linux, as opposed to the NO restrictions if you use MS.
Thanks for promoting proprietary software model, and dissing FOSS.
Keep up the good work ROY LOL.
