LAST month we explained why the reductionist logic that boils down to colour overlooked vastly broader issues, including but not limited to class issues. Being a technical and legal issues-centric site, we don't typically write about these sorts of things, but now it comes home to roost. It's too risky a subject to just conveniently ignore.
"Being a technical and legal issues-centric site, we don't typically write about these sorts of things, but now it comes home to roost."Skin colours are very visible; but they don't say very much about a person or a group. The whole concept of "race" has also been dismissed as somewhat of a fiction or a man-made concept (woman-made would be more inclusive a term) by geneticists. People who amassed over 100 billion in wealth would rather we obsess over races and empires don't want us to talk too much about their wars and subsequent enslavement/extraction (high-level looting).
Whenever we see the likes of the EPO and the Linux Foundation bringing up race and sex issues ("diversity" and such) we don't see anything at all addressed which pertains to grievances expressed by the communities or the unions. It's partly intentional. They'd rather not deal with issues like economic equality/disparity and instead deal with issues that aren't primary (in these institutions). They speak about "inclusiveness" when António Campinos and Benoît Battistelli basically include friends and relatives in their administration. It's all corruption and nepotism.
"When super-rich people control the major media don't underestimate the role the media plays in public discourse and resultant action."Race issues are real and sexism is still very pervasive. There are still many white-skinned races being discriminated against (look no further than racist statements from the current US president). So we know that colours alone aren't the sensitive subject. We suppose some people would even call white-skinned people "yellow" and insist that to be "white" you can only be from a few select countries in Europe and have some particular lineage (for instance, Mediterranean nations would not count). The 'binary' white or black is disingenuous.
The whole debate has been grossly oversimplified and made increasingly dishonest. The net effect is, we have more censorship, less freedom of thought (or expression of particular thoughts) and meanwhile the rich are getting a lot richer very rapidly (COVID-19 helped many of them). When super-rich people control the major media don't underestimate the role the media plays in public discourse and resultant action. Or so-called 'solutions'... ⬆
