Bonum Certa Men Certa

The OSI's President Apparently Does Not Know That His Own Employer (Salesforce) Works for ICE

Facilitator of the latest OSI event also facilitates Donald Trump's concentration camps with forced sterilisation (as reported by a whistleblower earlier this month [1, 2, 3]) and separation of babies from their parents

Microsoft Internment Camps

Summary: The hypocrisy (or double standard) of the OSI's President is astounding; taking salaries paid in part by ICE budget (Salesforce works for ICE and similarly evil agencies) while protesting in a proprietary software platform of Microsoft (GitHub) about ICE (all this whilst actively participating in it regardless)

"Salesforce protesting Github ties to ICE?"

So said figosdev (in a message he sent internally this morning). He added: "Isn't this kind of weird?" He pointed out this page from Josh Simmons (OSI's President, salaried by Salesforce):

ICE GitHub

figosdev had previously mentioned to us the role Salesforce plays in the same thing; a brochure was produced to highlight this.

Shall we take a look at or stock of what the aforementioned brochure (link above; they call it "Student Toolkit" [PDF]) says about Salesforce and ICE? Here we go (semi-translucent red highlights are ours):

Salesforce ICE #1

Salesforce ICE #2

Salesforce ICE #3

Salesforce ICE #4

GitHub (i.e. Microsoft), by the way, never severed/canceled its ties/relationship with ICE. It did, however, cancel the word "master" (effective later this week) where that word had nothing whatsoever to do with slavery. It made up a bunch of fluff about "Arctic vault" to distract from many media reports about the ICE relationship at the time -- a relationship that caused many top workers to resign from GitHub (not to mention projects and users who quit GitHub, never to return again).

"In the name of 'democratising' the OSI they sold the whole thing out."While Microsoft was working for Donald Trump (looking for more lucrative deals such as "JEDI") Simon Phipps as OSI President agreed to take Microsoft bribes. This was likely the most lethal turning point for that organisation. In the name of 'democratising' the OSI they sold the whole thing out.

Yesterday in FOSSLife the talk by OSI’s Joshua Simmons was outlined as follows:

“There are a lot of competing and complementary narratives about open source,” he noted, and your narrative will, unsurprisingly, depend on your relationship to open source.

Simmons presented three example narratives to illustrate: - A free software-centric narrative, in which “software freedom is a moral movement and open source is about business.” - An author-centric narrative, in which “maintainers are exploited and deserve more support, and maybe we should consider new licenses to ensure they get paid.” - A user-centric narrative, in which “few people have had the promise of user freedom realized for them.”

Those latter two "narratives" are revisionism (much like the "ethical" licence/s provocateurs, trying to redefine "ethics" to perhaps also completely ban Salesforce). It's not as if there are "many" different truths; we already know, based on Bruce Perens, that militia fetishist ESR created OSI (and by extension "Open Source") in an effort to derail and 'cancel' Richard Stallman (RMS). This is now in the public record.

"It's not as if there are "many" truths; we already know, based on Bruce Perens, that militia fetishist ESR created OSI (and by extension "Open Source") in an effort to derail and 'cancel' Richard Stallman (RMS)."An hour ago in IRC Shawn (GNU developer/contributor) said "there are many things authors of libre software need [...] and $$$ is only the right tool if it can buy those things for a reasonable price so that "narrative" is also bullshit [and] the ESR "scratch an itch" is the only reasonable way to empathize with authors, otherwise it sounds alot like the copyright mafiaa" (MPAA/RIAA).

Shawn continued: "RMS's "cognative dissonance" statement was the most coherent one I've heard in a long time: people simply don't have the moral strength to keep up with their lies and so the lies eventually catch up with them, even if only in their minds..."
