GitHub Makes You a Slave

HAVING just published Part 21 in the GitHub series (Microsoft GitHub Exposé), we now have a video to express thoughts and interpretations left out of the text.
"If you're looking for alternatives to GitHub, consider self-hosting first, then Free software."The short story is that people who start a project in GitHub or stay there in spite of Microsoft's takeover play a game of Russian roulette. Microsoft is looking for ways to 'monetise' everything, if not in subtle ways then in increasingly overt ways. Microsoft already became a censorship engine for a lot of Free software and it controls far too much of the so-called 'supply chain', which in turn gives Microsoft (and the NSA) incredible super-powers for sabotage.
If you're looking for alternatives to GitHub, consider self-hosting first, then Free software. The former is likely more important than the latter due to the threat surface/landscape. Almost everything that is self-hosting is also Free-as-in-freedom and it puts you in control of your project, as Linus Torvalds explained a long time ago (after he had learned from his mistakes; then he made Git). ⬆
