What the Latest EPO Leaks Teach Us About the Management's Plans for Software Patents in Europe

Summary: The very idea that the EPO's management will try to open the floodgates to European software patents isn't surprising; Benoît Battistelli and António Campinos have never valued patent compliance or quality; now we have concrete evidence of a coordinated effort to open/widen these floodgates

THE latest (tenth) part of the series contained a lot of 'meat', namely a new leak from a notorious management 'boot licker', who had been promoting software patents for years. Now he's elevated to a position of authority where he deserves none; without qualm -- and not much of a pause either -- he's already pushing in the illegal direction he has long preached for.

"Legally-invalid monopolies (non-compliant as per the law) would make nobody richer except deep-pocketed corporations and their lawyers. They profit from a hostile and noncompetitive landscape."The video above covers/explains what this means to coders in Europe, why it should be resisted, and how the EPO basically renders itself obsolete by granting millions of patents, many of which would be rendered invalid if tested in court. A real court, not an EPO-controlled tribunal. The EPO leaves a lot of toxic waste and a mess for short-term financial gain. Legally-invalid monopolies (non-compliant as per the law) would make nobody richer except deep-pocketed corporations and their lawyers. They profit from a hostile and noncompetitive landscape.
