Debian's Personal Attacks Are Upsetting Women, Too
Recent: Female Debian Developer: "I Believe Daniel [Pocock] is On the Right Track." | Statement on Debian
Debian announces, then comes an FSFE post (the FSFE isn't even allowed to use this name, it is akin to identity theft).
But remember, it's all about respecting trademarks, right?
Maybe not!
"So I see I’m behind everything these days," a female reader told us, "but Matthias kirschner from FSFE on [Microsoft] LinkedIn pointed out and linked to the Debian June 6 release about Daniel Pocock."
"Honestly, this press release was seriously unnecessary. I really don’t think that it was necessary at all."
"As far as the trademark is concerned, yes, Debian does hold the trademark but now I never ever thought I’d see them act like this!!!"
"Of course, I started using Debian before the non-uploading developers came in and ruined everything!"
We've called this the "blue hair syndrome"; people who cannot code and never coded were made "Debian Developers", cheapening the title if not altogether invalidating it.
"I mean, there’s been a lot of bad behavior by Debian and members," our reader said, "I don’t see any press release about that!"
"Like the time I volunteered to help with their diversity effort, and they totally did not even acknowledge me, and then hired Molly to do the gig… true story."
What Debian is doing right now isn't protecting women; it's alienating women. It's a bunch of men issuing and passing around press releases to demonise someone who spoke for women.
Most women aren't dumb enough to not see what's going on here. █
