Linux in Central Sahel (Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger)
Vast area, vast number of "Linux users" (if one counts Android as such)
HOURS ago we wrote about Linux and GNU/Linux in Burkina Faso, so why not take a quick look at GNU/Linux in Niger and in Mali, where mobile phones are very prevalent/ubiquitous compared to desktops/laptops?
Android is measured at almost 94% in Niger and 87% in Mali, not to be mistaken for Mali drivers targeting Linux and Android.
To appreciate just how large those countries are, watch their size compared to France (in colour) below. Those are also the countries with the world's highest birth rates. Mali is 40 births/1,000 population (2024 est.), Niger is 46.6 births/1,000 population (2024 est.), Burkina Faso is 31.9 births/1,000 population (2024 est.), and for comparison's sake France is 'just' 10.9 births/1,000 population (2024 est.) and Japan is 6.9 births/1,000 population (2024 est.). █
