Quitting Reddit (Social Control Media Controlled by Conde Nast)

Last week:

There is a new post in Reddit.

The platform is controlled by its owners and since the platform gets criticised, then one can expect comments (users not already culled or censored by the owners for "wrongthink") to be largely hostile.

We leave out comments and focus on the substance:

A Changing of the Guard - I Quit Today

Hi my Yellow Jacket family,

I’m writing to announce my resignation as your r/gatech moderator, effective immediately.

As many of you might know, I’m the founder and president of LibreTech Collective, a student organization dedicated to open-technology and computing freedom. Our goal is to engage the campus community with how they approach computing. Part of this mission involves hosting guest speakers, including international organizations and Georgia Tech alumni.

On January 20th, 2026, our club hosted Dr. Richard Stallman for a lecture at the Scheller College of Business. Despite past controversies surrounding Dr. Stallman, the officer corps decided to proceed with the event after months of deliberation and eventual Institute approval/funding. The event was a success, and raised over $2,000 for the Free Software Foundation to better the software you and I run for our own course work on campus.

But this event has led to significant internal conflict here on Reddit - which has now made international headlines.

Since parts and pieces of private chats have been released already, I’m sharing with you the complete log of chats for reference.

I would like to thank the Dean of Students, Dr. Kristina Clement, for her help in navigating this situation and ensuring a safe environment for everyone involved. Neither LibreTech nor I ignored these so‑called “issues” regarding Dr. Stallman and from the start we promptly reported this matter, coordinated with campus safety officials to secure the event, and nothing was found from claims online. As a result, the officer corps and I voted to move forward and continue working to bring one of the fathers of modern computing to campus. If you were lucky enough to attend this event you know that Dr. Stallman is now and will always be a foundational cornerstone of the free computing movement. The insight he provided that week was indispensable for the GT community. Additionally, I decided to take personal responsibility for hosting Dr. Stallman in my own home near campus. Is he quirky, yes, but aren’t we all?

I believe in the mission of computing freedom and will continue to advocate for it. I’ll leave you with a question: what are the ethical implications of a professor specializing in social media who takes it upon herself to dictate what should or should not happen on campus? Moreover, using social media as her platform, without IRB and Institute approval?

I do not believe that the actions taken by LibreTech or myself warranted the response we received. I genuinely tried to work with everyone that was involved, donating my time and service to this community for the past two years. I loved being a source of knowledge for the campus community, and serving as your moderator for the last few years together. I leave this position with a new disenchantment about tenured faculty's involvement in student affairs.

With that all said, I’m stepping away from Reddit to continue my work with the LibreTech Collective and advancing freedom on campus. This wasn’t a decision I made lightly, and it took me well over two months to come to terms with. For those of you who want to still follow LibreTech on Reddit, our Secretary will be posting on here via u/gtltc for future LibreTech updates and Q/A’s.

I love MY campus and MY community.

Win, lose, or tie - I’m a Yellow Jacket till I die.

~ Alex Jenkins

Reddit is not a community, it is a company, and one that has personally attacked me for nearly 20 years because of my views on Novell and Microsoft.

Don't waste time in Reddit. Many years ago RMS joked with me that it can be called "Conde Nasty".
