Summary: FUD attacks and physical damage to hardware should motivate complaints about what Microsoft pressured OEMs to do

Microsoft will blame OEMs for the latest UEFI disaster, which gives Microsoft self-serving FUD. It lets Microsoft warn people that Linux bricks laptops and it generated headlines like "How to destroy a brand-new Samsung laptop: Boot Linux on it" (sensationalist headline).

Although a fix is made availablle, the damage is already done. Microsoft generated FUD and it can intimidate people who wish to explore GNU and Linux.

Noyes has this report at IDG and another site says:

Anandtech is reporting that some Samsung laptops can be bricked by booting Linux via UEFI. UEFI is the successor to BIOS and Samsung's implementation on some laptops appears to cause the system to brick when trying to boot Linux. This problem likely stems from the systems not being fully tested and validated.

Here too nobody asks, why was UEFI made the default choice in the first place? Some machines, such as this utter failure from Microsoft, cannot possibly have Linux boot. The idea is, Microsoft would like to make Vista 8-only devices. That is what UEFI is about. It is anticompetitive. ⬆
