Our Second Month in Our Virtual Private Server
"Cloud"? What on Earth is that?!
THE pace - and focus* - of the site has been regained. We spent a month doing what we knew upfront (for years already) would be a long process of complicated migrations and upgrades. The process isn't done yet, but the more important/pressing tasks are out of the way. We all along wanted to continue publishing new material rather than go silent (or worse, dark) for a month or so, then re-emerge again like an author with a new book or musical artist/s with some new album/mini album/stage performance.
We're fully aware that the news is "slowing down", not because nothing is happening but because fewer and fewer people report on what's happening. This past weekend we worked on some tools to help deal with sluggish news cycles and we ourselves try to contribute by reporting what we can. We're not some huge team or "proper" newsroom, but we have the capacity to produce quite a lot and curate links to others who produce decent-quality material.
Assuming the Web is still a "thing" in 10 years (the Open Web is under attack), we'll still be here and our Gemini Edition turns 3 this winter. The site turns 17 just over a week from now.
Software Freedom remains (and may always be) at risk, but so are open standards and the Web. Those things are closely connected and inter-dependent. █

* We'll still tell stories about whatever attacks were attempted against us, but only about once a week. We need to limit the time spent (or wasted) on saboteurs. But we must also raise awareness because they pick on other people - people who don't blog (some are very old and even have cancer).
