Google News 'Source Diversity' (Easy to Game, Many Sources Omitted, Half the Results on "Linux" Come From Microsoft-Gifted Site)
Gulag Noise [1, 2] (Google News) has become increasingly noisy and easy to manipulate. No wonder many Google News staff got laid off last year and the layoffs are, in general, continuing.
As Cory Doctorow put it the other day, "every newspaper has an above-the-fold AI headline and half the stories on Google News as I write this are about AI. I’ve had to make rule for my events: The first person to mention AI owes everyone else a drink."
One can concur as it has really gotten this bad. But set aside those coveted buzzwords (symptom of poor 'journalism' which gravitates towards SEO), what about GNU/Linux?
From R.R.R.R.R.R. (a program specifically developed for curation of news by our team):
If I wanted a pool of Phoronix articles (marketing pieces), I'd just go to that site. Google News is deliberately ignoring thousands of decent blogs that occasionally cover Linux and aren't mostly ads, but Google News is a gatekeeper of narratives, not a Web search or a source of news.
They will perish if this keeps happening.
