Earth Abides; Reading Doesn't
Yesterday I was in a small-town library, perusing the shelves. I stumbled across the book "Earth Abides", and the title caught my attention. I'd never heard of it, but the plot summary reminded me of my favorite Jimi Hendrix song.
I was onto something; apparently the book had inspired Hendrix to write "Third Stone From The Sun." (My favorite of his songs is "1983... A Merman I Should Turn To Be", which I kind of forgot was about living underwater. My next close favorite is "House Burning Down.")

Four day weekend
Somehow my work schedule aligned so I have a 4 day weekend at home starting tomorrow. This rarely happens. My plan is just to hang out with my wife. I am in the midst of traveling home as I type this, feeling pretty zen.

Kolibri OS?
I heard of Kolibri OS a while back and I'm curious to know what anyone in the pub has to say about it.

Kaleidoscope of opinions
I’m really treating this capsule as my public diary…
Have I ever written that I change my opinions way too often? I’m person who constantly questions my own beliefs and opinions. So, they are easily swayed by occurring events.

Embracing the universe like a blazing star
I have been so busy throwing myself into implementing my plans and goals for 2024 that I haven't even gotten a spare moment until just now - and, frankly, I'm just forcing a spare moment into existence by sheer force of will slash discounting the future to justify the opportunity cost - to actually sit down and tell you what those plans and goals are. Which is probably fine, because in all likelihood you don't care terribly much, but I'm going to inflict it on you anyway.
I am going to be much busier than usual this whole year long, on multiple fronts, doing everything I can to cross items off a long, inter-connected TODO list with the ultimate goal of making substantial progress on the following inter-connected aims. Fair warning, the list is real, the items on it are concrete, I know full well the direction I am steaming in, but a concise and fully internally consistent written formulation of the whole shebang for public consumption is something I'm going to try to formulate on the fly right here right now, so it's not gonna be perfect, but again, that doesn't matter.

Watched the [System Crafter video](https://www.youtube.com/live/f7xB2fFk1tQ) on EXWM. I have wanted to use emacs as my window manager for a while now, but it seemed hard. Worked right away as I followed along with the video. Rad AF.

Refining the quarterly release system
When I announced at the end of March that I was switching to a Hare-inspired quarterly release scheme with 0.YY.QQ numbering, YY being the year and QQ a zero-indexed quarter, I was aware that this was a little strange, arguably risky, because it didn't really allow for unscheduled bugfixes. I thought maybe I could get away with it by moving very slowly and making small changes. It hasn't taken long for this to backfire somewhat, as it has been pointed out to me that there is a bug in the new formal gemtext speficiation. Specifically, the ABNF specification indicates that a gemtext document consists of either zero or one line of gemtext, when of course it is supposed to be one or more. Thanks to Michael Nordmeyer for bringing this to my attention!

Come for OpenBSD, Stay for Compilers
After sharing the beginning of my journey with OpenBSD last night, I received some very helpful and encouraging e-mails, including excellent resources. Thank you, Gemini, for all your help!
I must confess that OpenBSD's installer intimidated me, at least initially. I've deployed a lot of Red Hat machines and am frankly used to a GUI. I was unsure how best to navigate configuring network settings over a command line alone. However, the installer is very easy to follow, and I quickly picked up on the flow.
