Women in Free Software (FOSS) Need Action, Not Mere Words
WHAT IF I told you that in my personal experience, spanning several decades, the men who are loudest about women's rights are some of the very worst offenders, yet they're trying to disguise their track record by being overly vocal about the issue? Words are cheap. There are several sayings along the lines of, non-racists don't need to say "I'm not a racist", they just aren't being racists.
In the FOSS community, in my experience, some of the most obnoxious people, who habitually repel women, are themselves describing themselves as champions of women. I don't agree. I've seen some truly despicable attacks. When they say they adore women they typically mean under their control or in bed. Some of them use women as political props and casual sex objects. Some of them pretend to be women in order to attack other men.
Last week we wrote several articles to that effect. We'll probably do more of that in the future. Monsters or mobsters who claim to be part of "the community" aren't in it for inclusion. They exploit the community for sinister corporate and political agenda. They need to be named and shamed. Crybullies are not compatible with safe spaces. █
