Scarecrows
It's just disrespectful.
Do you think they're short-sighted or something?
At which point did you expect *any* bird, let alone a crow, to confuse these things with humans?
Humans do that thing where they move sometimes. That's a pretty important point in identifying animals in general.

Getting away 1/...
I hate this place. I don't want to fix it, I know I wouldn't make it if I tried. That's like trying to make Twitter a nice place to be. You won't make it. It's about the people, not about the elites.
-
Motivation 5/...
Sometimes I'm imagining that motivation will magically become infinite when it will go public if users use it.
I should know by now this isn't how it works. It probably won't even make me happy for more than a few hours.

in hospital, outa da hospital - here and always, again :)
Had a meltdown - stressors and woes in life. Thos are situation. Committeed (voluntary) to a psyche ward 120 mi north of here. Now, emerged a refocused man!
Keeping up on a few things, changing what I can, trying to change what I can't, force-feeding chage to thing I need to change :D

Moles
I have a neighbor who is particular about his grass. Around here, we have moles, and if you know about them, you know they destroy lawns. And so, it naturally follows that he is an expert mole hunter.
His method is simple: He goes outside throughout the day and checks on mole activity. If any of it approaches the front lawn (he lets them have the back yard, as a concession) he waits until the activity is in a new side tunnel. Once he knows that they're in a side tunnel (a new branch in their larger system), he cuts a small hole and inserts a garden hose. He then turns it on, and like magic the mole surfaces through the ground for air. At that point, it's the classic game of whac-a-mole.

Ham Radio
He was coming in rather well, a 559 signal and there was the sound of a keyer being used. Well formed letters in the Farnsworth spacing with some mistakes but mostly there.

Thirteen years
Yesterday, it was thirteen years since I installed Gophernicus on my VPS and started this gopherhole. The top-level menu went through several redesign attempts through the years, but it still remains more-or-less the same as back then and has been visited more than 116000 times since.

No IPs
Another problem is the exhaustion of the IPv4 space (therefore NAT shenanigans). Why IPv6 kinda sorta did not go anywhere in some places, probably mostly those that have "large enough" IPv4 allocations has various aspects, some of which are detailed below. This is for America; other nations with large IPv4 allocations may differ in detail.

Bootstrapping a Text Oriented Web
First order of business is to shorten "text oriented web" to TOW. It's easier to type and say. I'm considering the bootstrapping process from three vantage points.

Towards a proper FlightLog 12 -- Reducing Complexity
* How about adding some MetaTags to a gemtext post and extract the post, the tags, the abstract, any timestamps from it and produce separate snippets to be concatenated as indices, included in feeds, and what not.

Typing with a scroll wheel
For my Gemini Hand-Held Maneuvering Unit I've been thinking about how to type on it. One option of course is to add a physical keyboard, but I don't like the idea of having to make a tiny keyboard. I'm wondering if you can type using only a scroll wheel.

The Hand Held Maneuvering Unit
Ok I've changed the name of the gemini reader device. I was reading through the Gemini wikipedia articles and found that on the EVA missions they tested several iterations of something called the Hand Held Maneuvering Unit (HHMU). It was a portable gas thruster which fired a gas out of a nozzle to propel the user around. Astronauts found it hard to use as you had to align it with your centre of mass, or it causes you to spin.
My gemini reader will be a handheld unit for maneuvering around Geminispace, so the name fits perfectly. Like the real HHMU, the device will probably be a bit cumbersome to use! The name is also a little clunky but I'll probably mostly refer to it as the HHMU or HMU.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
