What Are Friends For?
I was having this conversation with some friends recently and got me thinking about what it means to be supportive.
I was talking to two very close friends of mine, both women in their mid-twenties. They were discussing all the different plastic surgery procedures they were thinking of getting starting at thirty years old.
I was frankly shocked that they were thinking about starting to undergo these sorts of irreversible procedures at such an early age. When one of my friends voiced that they wanted a nosejob, I was shocked and said as much, though politely of course. I asked them why they thought they needed a nosejob and a number of other procedures and also brought up the fact that surgery is surgery and the decision to go under the knife is not something to be taken lightly.

I managed to wake up again
Fun little day after a grueling one.
Awoke mildly THC disoriented. Got mad at the estimated cost of a treadmill stress test later in the day. Wife talked me down. She's amazing.
Went to the test. I think I aced it. If nothing else, had fun conversing with the technicians. We spoke of a mythical being named "BRUCE" because I saw that name on the monitor instead of mine, and it turned out that's the name of whatever software suite they use.

2024 Week 27/28/29: Status and Photos
We visited some of my in-laws last week as part of a larger reunion. One couple flew in from overseas to join us. We are very close to this particular couple, and it was very difficult to say goodbye when the time came for us to leave. The wife recommended that we all join a family group chat to stay in touch, which I would love to do; my only problem is that the chat service she wants to use is WhatsApp. I have strong feelings about WhatsApp and have deliberately never made an account there, especially since I already have a Facebook account and already talk to family on there. Now I'm at a crossroads: should I compromise on extra family time for the sake of privacy principles, or should I compromise on privacy principles for the sake of extra family time?

Solitaire
I've been playing solitaire again lately, after leaving it for many years. I have been playing with a physical deck of cards, but of course I cannot help but remember the many (too many) hours I spent on Microsoft Solitaire. there's no reason to miss at, I can play exactly the same game with my cards.

an ASCII redesign of The Midnight
It's a small drawing in "ASCII art" (though I doubt this is "true" ASCII characters) that is, indeed, The Midnight as shown at the top of Midnight.pub, but I removed a fair bit of crowded detail, and (to me) indecipherable characters throughout, and modded the building/city backdrop behind the Pub, as well :) I don't mean to step on m15o's toes, but I think this layout is really quite nice, clean, and obvious as to what is what. If you're reading this m15o, by all means use it for the top/banner of The Midnight. I can send a .txt file your way of it if you like :)
