Going Greenwashing!
In their own site that serves to reaffirm their supposed commitment to our planet.
But wait...
There was something that Huang said during the keynote that shocked me into a mild panic. Nvidia's Blackwell cluster, which will come with eight GPUs, pulls down 15kW of power. That's 15,000 watts of power. Divided by eight, that's 1,875 watts per GPU."
Very very "green" watts, surely!
What does Mr. Torvalds think of the "finger-worthy" company?
This is just the next "crypto"-like hype to him: [Video] Linus Torvalds on 'Hilarious' AI Hype: "I Hate the Hype" and "I Don't Want to be Part of the Hype", "You Need to Be a Bit Cynical About This Whole Hype Cycle"
As we wrote (summarised) back in April: "They're [Torvalds and peer] both very cynical about how "Hi Hi chips" used to be "crypto" and are basically GPUs. Torvalds reminds people that yesterday's hype was "crypto" and before that "cloud-native". He explains that a lot of this stuff is "BS" around the "grain" (substance) and those who say "your job will be gone in 5 years" are just charlatans begging for money from investors, which is why they ride hype waves."
NVIDIA still sells shovels for gold that does not exist in a hill nobody even heard of. So-called "AI" destroys jobs. But not because of what they tell us... it's wasting money, in vain... money that would otherwise be spent on workers who do real work. █
