Ethical Consumer Could Use a Mention of "Ethical Software"
Maybe the Free Software Foundation (FSF) can get in touch with them.
This morning I went to the Ethical Consumer (ethicalconsumer.org) Web site as I was told it had been missing "Ethical Software".
What is "Ethical Software"? Well, definitely not "Ethical Source" - somewhat is a misnomer in fact as it's all about excluding people.
As consumers, a term that we as developers prefer to avoid (the term "users" is preferred; in proprietary software they say "customers", "subscribers" etc.), folks tend to benefit from software they can fully control, either individually, collectively (with help of a group), or by drifting towards forks of that software.
There are "lots of RMS and FSF material on that theme," an associate has noted, recalling some of the essays and talks they wrote/gave about Free software benefits to users, developers, and may one say... "consumers".
The FSF's campaign for this winter is off to an OK start with about $3,000 raised per day, or a pace of about $100,000 per month if they can sustain this early momentum. The blog of the FSF has not advertised this yet. █
