  Thinking only in terms of Microsoft/Apple/Novell no one needs to "apply"... But here where I live we call this kind of move: "Shuffle and Play again!" I can remember what's happened in the 90's with these MS "agreements".
  
  Lets try to make a VISUAL (sort of algebraic) description to find the winner:
  
  Novell Microsoft Microsoft Apple
  
  It's the "virtualization" of the software patents applied exclusively to Microsoft!

  And the best counter-example the SUSE droids can come up with and which the regurgitate as much as they can is the Linspire deal, which on all accounts was a huge success for MS, the only drawback was that they didn't get the namechange for free, but had to use some pocket change. Well the name is changed like they wanted, can someone tell me how this is such a great example on how MS not always wins?

  Corel was also among the very first supporters of OOXML. It's totally under Microsoft's control (and has been since their deal).

  Apple is doing really fine. MS-Office for Apple is also quite a success. All Linux vendors partnering with MS make good business.
  
  So you really have to 'believe' in Roy like you believe in a prophet...
