Bye, Google News

THE above video estimates that Google News started around 2003 and according to Wikipedia I was close because "Google released a beta version in September 2002" and I've used it since around 2003, i.e. nearly 20 years ago. That stopped today. I removed all the RSS feeds of Google News and this concluded my complete departure from Google dis-services. The process was a bit time-consuming because of the need for alternatives in the form of hundreds of RSS feeds (new ones). But we've got the important stuff covered now. We don't wish to miss an important news story just out of spite or principle (eschewing Google).
"We don't wish to miss an important news story just out of spite or principle (eschewing Google)."Google is not a Web company. Google is a Google company and a threat to the Web. It wants the Web to become Google and it's not alone. In order to regain control of information flow we need to get away from Google et al and, if that's not enough (because Google dominates browsers regardless) we need to abandon the Web to the extent feasible (hence our embrace of Gemini). The video above discusses some of these points in more words and depth. ⬆
