Microsoft Has Less Than 1,000 Mail (MX) Servers Left, It's Virtually Dead in That Area (0.19% of the Market)
Two years ago:
This year (dated November 1st, 2023):
Exim at 254,000 servers, Postfix at 150,774, Microsoft down to 824
ALMOST 3 years ago we showed that Microsoft's share in mail servers had shriveled and fell to almost nothing. Well, Microsoft has since then fallen further, reaching just 0.19% according to this page (compare to 0.31% two years ago).
What's rather astounding is how the so-called "tech" so-called "media" never even talks about it. 15 years ago Microsoft had about 25% of this market, causing considerable mail loss and disruption to the world. There's a technical reason, not just a moral reason, for abandoning Microsoft.
Looking at the client side, Microsoft has long not been "industry standard", as Outlook and its "Clown" version (.com) barely account for 10% of the total. Several firms' assessments reached similar conclusions, including this one from Felix Richter:
What does Microsoft make money on these days? What does it actually sell, aside from the Trump and Biden "defence" bailouts? Azure fails financially and the "clown" is not growing (many Microsoft layoffs in this area every year since 2020). Hence all this "HEY HI" (AI) nonsense or vapourware. In the media, almost all articles about Microsoft are vapourware this year because it is an effective distraction as debt piles up. █
