A eulogy for my father
(My father passed away last week. This is a eulogy that I wrote to myself about him. It won't be read in public, and likely won't be shared anywhere but here.)
I have three stories I'd like to tell about my father.
First story: I was a fat kid. Dad was always fit, and he was better than me at pretty much everything physically. After I took skating lessons for a couple of years, Dad brought me to the rink one afternoon. He was a bit unsteady on his skates, and I was excited to finally be able to show off something that I was good at. I skated past him too quickly, clacked his skate with mine, and he fell over and hit his head. I could tell it hurt him.

abstaining
I am addicted. I believe we all are addicted to something. I wonder if us humans could function without an addiction of sorts. Especially in the hell that we have created for ourselves. Whether it's a natural state of humans is a moot point given hardly anything about humans is in it's natural state anymore. And yes I am assuming there is a natural state for humans, and no, it doesn't mean climbing trees. [edit: scratch that, we should be climbing trees.]
But back to the topic, we are actually addicted to a few things, caffeine, a screen, social media, cigarettes, weed, most of them which keep us going on a regular basis. I do not think one should abstain from these altogether, hell, it's probably healthy. It is healthier than watching the news.

There's a lot of work done on car safety, as illustrated by this photo.

Linux
So, I was sitting here for a while, thinking about a few things, and ended up installing Fedora 40 on my Dell Lattitude E6430 again. The KDE spin, because I really don't like GNOME, and other Wayland desktops don't interest me. I poked around with it for a while, but never felt fully..."comfortable" using it. I honestly don't know what it is, but I just couldn't bring myself to continue using it after a few minutes, even after fully updating and *not* seeing the GRUB rescue screen show up after a reboot.

The Librem 5 is.. not that bad?
Recently Purism assounted they are dropping the price of their Librem 5 from USD $999 to $699, slightly higher the original price the Librem 5 launched at. I preordered one 5 years ago when it was new and never received mine. So I wrote an email asking for my device. And received the device in about 2 weeks. (I'm quite surprised given Purism's lacklaster performance ever after the lunch). And there are my thoughts on the device.

Improve your SSH agent security
If you are using SSH quite often, it is likely you use an SSH agent which stores your private key in memory so you do not have to type your password every time.
This method is convenient, but it comes at the expense of your SSH key use security, anyone able to use your session while the agent holds the key unlocked can use your SSH key. This scenario is most likely to happen when using a compromised build script.
However, it is possible to harden this process at a small expense of convenience, make your SSH agent ask for confirmation every time the key has to be used.
