THE FSF recently reached its goal (9 days late) and spoke out against Microsoft - something that we've not seen in a while. Its founder has not given public talks since the spring (the latest two got effectively canceled) and the GNU site has only one talk of his online for 2024. The FSF does not mention his talks and we now understand why (insiders told us).
Today's video mentions that the high-priority projects list of the FSF is sorely missed and maybe we already have "too much" code (in some areas, too little in others). An associate remarks that the problem is "too much Microsoft code, too much Microsoft mindset, too much Microsoft 'help' in writing code, too much Microsoft 'help' [from Microsoft collaborators] in 'leading' projects, etc. Anyway the amount of code prevents 'security' and maintainability."
In the case of the Linux Foundation and OSI, the Microsoft takeover is quite blatant. Geeks get replaced by wannabe politicians who cannot and do not code.
It needs to be recognised that leadership in area of Software Freedom, if divided along political lines, won't accomplish much. Perhaps such is the goal and why large corporations prefer this kind of leadership.
To be clear, it doesn't even matter if it's left wing, right wing or whatever... the key issue is a rejection of and departure from the technical focus, sometimes intentionally dividing people who would otherwise collaborate, working in cohesion for common causes. █
