"Digital Sovereignty" Impossible in Europe as Long as Officials Are in the Pockets of American Companies
In the news: (as noted earlier)
70% or higher in some countries. Italy for example:
"Digital Sovereignty" has been talked about quite a lot lately because of Europe [1, 2, 3, 4], but the EPO has effectively been 'sold' to Microsoft and the same is true for many EU institutions.
There seems to be no real roadmap for Europe to reassert control over its computer systems and its data, which got outsourced to an increasingly Kremlin-friendly regime across the big ocean. That's a problem not limited to institutions. Citizen too seems to have embraced GAFAM systems, or surveillance-loving Web browsers that are forced upon people by the bloated and overly complex Web sites of European institutions.
If these institutions cannot facilitate "Digital Sovereignty", then it's time for a reboot. They just simply don't work for Europe, they just happen to operate inside Europe. █
