Huge Microsoft layoff

Modus operandi in a nutshell:

Buyouts and Layoffs: Severance, Roles eliminated, operational costs down

Easiest Layoffs Ever: something something hey hi

Had Microsoft sought to eliminate young (underpaid, hungry and overambitious, not complacent due to job insecurity and financial insecurity) workers, it would not save enough or as much money (in payroll) as firing a lot of old people - as in over 40 - while disguising that as "retirement" and following up with PIPs of there's resistance.

The media refuses to say it like it is.

Microsoft has mass layoffs and those target the most experienced people in one of the best-paid locations.
