Eben Moglen on Encryption and Anonymity
Video: PdF 2011 | Eben Moglen: The alternate net we need, and how we can build it ourselves (ironically the NSA's biggest helper sponsored this event)
THE prevalence or presence of whistleblowers died down with the investigative media's demise.
Today we share a cross-section of this decade-old video which predates Snowden's NSA leaked. Professor Eben Moglen speaks of the roots of E-mail encryption and how the United States' government reacted to it.
Encryption and anonymity are essential for whistleblowing, i.e. for exposing crimes committed by people in positions of great power (they strongly dislike privacy for anyone but themselves). Social control media has become not only an extension of mass surveillance but also a form of mind-reading, based on "behaviour" or "signals" that users emit to the server, not only what they write in a hurry, without due caution (brainfarts are common in microblogging). █
