XBox is Dead. This is Just the Beginning.
It is neither a secret nor a subject of dispute that XBox sales fell over 50% in the past year. Microsoft says so itself!
It's also not a secret that XBox sales were so bad that Microsoft dropped the price to the point where it lost hundreds of dollars on each XBox sold. That's according to Microsoft.
The XBox layoffs have been out of control lately. This year there were more waves of XBox layoffs than we can reliably keep track of and days ago this was mentioned in the press in relation to cancelled Halo projects.
Does the following news surprise anybody?
Seems like a "rolling" policy; over time more regions may adopt the same policy. That's how it usually goes, but with face-saving statements the reality may take some months to trickle in, then prevail.
A lot of XBox- or games-centric sites talk about the former Blizzard CEO leaving Microsoft [1, 2, 3, 4], but don't lose sight of the XBox scoop. As we said years ago, the main reason Microsoft bought Activision/Blizzard was to hide the growing losses and failure of XBox. They want to change the subject and scope.
XBox might be on its last foot. █
