Let's Encrypt Below 20 Capsules in Geminispace (Gemini Protocol)
On the Web, Let's Encrypt became vast; but not in Gemini Protocol, which mandates encryption but not outsourcing
THE Linux Foundation's Certificate Authority (CA) Let's Encrypt is becoming increasingly irrelevant to Gemini Protocol. The issue isn't the Certificate Authority Let's Encrypt per se but centralised CAs in general. Let's Encrypt is probably by far the biggest component of the "cabal" or the "cartel" of so-called "trust". For those who aren't familiar with the downsides of monopolised and consolidated (by conglomerates) "trust", consider the chaos which is 'secure' boot.
Users of Gemini Protocol won't be making many lookups through CAs like Let's Encrypt. So how much smaller has it gotten? By Sunday it was down to 20 and now it's 19. To quote Lupa's statistics page: "2611 (89.9 %) capsules are self-signed, 19 (0.7 %) use the Certificate Authority Let's Encrypt, 274 (9.4 %) are signed by another CA (may be not a trusted one)."
More and more Gemini capsules implement their trust model adequately. █
