Re: The Man Who Would Be King đź‘‘
The film version made a big impression on me as a child. Sean Connery and Michael Caine have big adventures in the mountains of central Asia. I remember really wanting it to be a true story, and also knowing it wasn't. I looked at an atlas, trying to find places that don't exist.
Now, the story seems quite close to racist. The reason they have such adventures is because they are white. It could have been written about any outsider arriving from far away, but it was written by a British colonialist, and he had a certain view of the world.

It's Cold So I'm Reading Books
Rather than programming in my very cold office, I have decided to sit under what feels like a billion blankets and read. I just finished up "Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer and am now reading "Remember It!" by Nelson Dellis, which I hope to finish up in the next day or so. For the vast majority of my adult life, I just didn't read books at all. When I say at all, I mean at all. I'm trying to fix that, although I honestly don't think I'm going to become a prolific reader. I'm just glad I finished reading "Godel, Escher, Bach" this year. The small list of books I have finished can be seen at the following link.

Call to action (re: A somewhat brutal Bongusta cleanup)
Yesterday's phlog post of logout is a wake up call.
It is titled "A somewhat brutal Bongusta cleanup" [1].
Logout tells the Bongusta list was due to a clean up, and after this, the list contained just 64 phlogs. Fortunately, there were also 8 new phlogs to be added, resulting in a total of 72 phlogs in Bongusta.

launching Oneiric Monk
I am happy to launch a new project, oneiricmonk.net.
As the internet gets overfilled with content, creators pushing their own limits, creating daily challenges, monthly challenges, even the best intention give rise to an overwhelming reality. I don't want to push myself, and I don't want to push other to have to like, follow, react to everything I do all the time.
