When Windows Was Dominant (1990s) Browser Monopoly Meant MSIE, But Now Google Android is Dominant and the Web in a 'Webapps' Era Works With (or Is Designed for) Chrome-isms
In India, the world's most populous nation, Apple is very small. It's well known, Apple isn't denying it. This means that many mobile users are "on Android" (no matter the OEM) and since about 80% of Web requests come from mobile (read: Android) we can expect this:
The other day in "Let Them Eat 'Apps' I explained that many places nowadays expect people to use "apps" and therefore possess/carry around some "smart" "phone" (seldom used to make actual calls). This means the browser monoculture is a deepening issue; more and more things (appliances, parking, government departments) will depart from open standards and instead target some proprietary platform which spies.
We've been there before, except the vendor lock-in didn't extend as far as (to repeat the above) appliances, parking, government departments etc. β
