We Need to Liberate the Client Side and Userspace Too
LINUX, UNIX, AND GNU/Linux (the last one means userspace freedom too, not Android) have grown incredibly popular. Windows is considered by many, especially technical people, unfit for societal absorption; it's seen as unworthy of room in the datacentre.
How did we get here and where do we go next? Well, it all depends on the person and the domain. Even though GNU/Linux distros became de facto standard in datacentres (so-called 'clown' computing) on the 'average' desktops or laptops we're still not seeing enough of that. It would be nice to see billions - not just millions - of people worldwide using GNU/Linux on the client side. Not Android in the palm or Debian in the datacentre; we want to see distros, and not used only by developers but also 'average' users, who might be seen sporting a "Chromebooks" and thus lots of Google "webapps" instead of Free software.
Lots of work remains to be done. █
