Gateway for News and Blogs
WITH 42 new pages yesterday (Free software and GNU/Linux news) we're not at risk of running out of sites to cite. News site are definitely slowing down (funding issues are among the culprits), but we're keeping up by keeping abreast of more blogs and personal sites. We've also developed several bits of software that help us do this and prepare handy summaries, e.g. R.R.R.R.R.R. as shown below:
Our aspiration has long been not just to provide news and commentary/analysis. We want to aggregate and organise/curate news to inform people. We do this in several protocols, including Gemini and IRC.
In the long run, this site and its sister site (less overlap between them now) should hopefully become a popular destination for people who look for information, not chaff. Groklaw's slogan was, "When you want to know more... (and don't know where to look)"
Well, Groklaw has been offline for a long time ("GROKLAW" is still in ibiblio, but there seems to be some site configuration issue).
So it's not really dead, but someone needs to fix it.
In a sense, other sites have done the same, including Groklaw:
There's also the FOSS Force News Wire, lxer.com, and few others.
The Web is in a dire, bad shape. But we can work around that. █
