The L Word (Not Linux)
Championing Software Freedom is "dangerous"
The "F word" (freedom) got RMS in an ocean of turbulence and trouble. His use of the "L word" (libre, not Linux) did too. Apparently the idea of people controlling their own life (through their gadgets) is "dangerous" and "scary" to some people (and corporations they own or work for). They fancy exercising unjust control over people to extract data, money etc. out of them while at the same time brainwashing and manipulating them in all sorts of ways.
The concepts behind Free software are not 100% original or unprecedented because they're deeply rooted in or connected to people's expression of ideas in regards to personal freedom, autonomy etc. It's one of those "standing on the shoulders of giants" type of things. What RMS did was formalise those ideas in the context of software while crafting a licence to circumvent the main issues, aside from software patents (it took almost a decade to recognise the potency of this issue). He also started GNU, his "baby". That was more than 41 years ago.
If you see RMS under attack for some personal views (e.g. politics), interpret that as an inability to challenge/debunk what he says about software philosophy and various technical or legal matters. The same goes for associates of RMS, who are being trolled right now by an opportunistic transphobe. █
