Canonical Boasts Taking Steps Towards Taking Control Away From Computer Users (Latest Ubuntu is the Least Free Ever)
ANYONE can go out there and buy a computer, but that computer might forbid true ownership, including replacing the existing system or modifying (sometimes merely repairing) the hardware. Having a computer is not the same as controlling a computer.
That much is now widely known by the Right to Repair (RTR) "movement".
Over at Tux Machines I've just published a short article about Canonical (and Ubuntu) pushing malicious 'features' as part of the latest release. These 'features' are another step towards total lock-down, preventing supposed owners of computers from exercising control over these computers. To be clear, IBM's Fedora/Red Hat is no better in this regard [1, 2] and sometimes it feels like they compete over who can better please Microsoft and the NSA. █
