The Asian and African Elephant in the Room
IN Southern Asia and Africa the footprint of Android (and of [1, 2] to a lesser extent) is rather large and it is growing over time. The media barely talks about this as it 'embarrasses' Microsoft and Microsoft-sponsored media prefers another framing. Saying the Linux is growing would be "advertisers-unfriendly" (or outright "hostile") because Linux does not buy ads.
The growth of Linux, via Android, is the Southern Asian and African elephant in the room, so to speak. In some sense, Linux is already vastly bigger than Windows, but the media prefers not to say it like that. This is intentional. See below (based on this month's data from statCounter). █
