Some GNU Joiners in Geminispace

Gemini capsule capsule.jemarch.net by Jose E. Marchesi

Around Christmastime several years ago Andy and I spoke to RMS about extending the presence of GNU and the FSF to Geminispace. RMS agreed that they should (maybe would) explore this but explained he had two reservations: 1) lack of human resources; 2) having to maintain pages in two places (or protocols).

RMS didn't rule out our suggestion, he probably just never fully "got around" to it, nor did the FSF. In any event, earlier today we noticed that a GNU developer, Jose E. Marchesi (known for GNU poke and a bunch of other things) adopted Gemini Protocol, then started his own capsule at gemini://capsule.jemarch.net (and another place/address/domain, which he seems to have given up on since).

He said: "Recently I have been using Gemini, a sort of a modernized Gopher, more and more, and have finally decided to create and maintain my own Gemini capsule, that you can find at gemini://capsule.jemarch.net. The plan, moving forward, is to publish basically the same contents in both www and gemini versions of this homepage."

It's nice to see more Free software 'hackers' joining what will turn 7 this coming summer. Lupa is seeing more active capsules than ever before.

There are 4807 capsules. We successfully connected recently to 3243 of them.
