Eruaran As they should be Dec 07 00:00
schestowitz I know of only one blog that sometimes links to them. 451 Group… after they had visited Redmond for all I can tell. Dec 07 00:00
Eruaran haha Dec 07 00:00
schestowitz Microsoft tends to demand “fair coverage” Dec 07 00:03
*kentma has quit (Remote closed the connection) Dec 07 00:03
Eruaran I posted on youtube that Fedora 10′s animated boot (Plymouth) is nicer than the clips of Vista7′s animated boot… and that you don’t have to wait, Fedora 10 is out… Dec 07 00:03
Eruaran I got thumb raped Dec 07 00:03
schestowitz “No discrimination” (*cough* and Linux is a cancer) Dec 07 00:04
*kentma (n=user@host86-154-251-92.range86-154.btcentralplus.com) has joined #boycottnovell Dec 07 00:04
schestowitz Eww…thumb raped Dec 07 00:04
schestowitz Better a thumb than a fist. Ewww. Dec 07 00:05
schestowitz Windows 7 wannabes watch these videos Dec 07 00:05
Eruaran I like fedora’s “Solar” boot theme Dec 07 00:05
schestowitz You can’t disturb their vapourware-dreamin’ Dec 07 00:05
schestowitz Vista 7 flew too close to the sun… Dec 07 00:05
schestowitz With wings of salami… Dec 07 00:06
Eruaran Its sad that these morons just thumb rape you for mentioning it Dec 07 00:06
schestowitz It got KOOKED Dec 07 00:06
Eruaran they probably didn’t bother to have a look Dec 07 00:06
Eruaran funny day at work yesterday Dec 07 00:07
Eruaran Some Brits came in Dec 07 00:07
Eruaran Wanting advice on service providers and other stuff Dec 07 00:08
Eruaran They’re like, “youre a telstra agent” Dec 07 00:08
Eruaran “yes, but we don’t recommend telstra” Dec 07 00:08
schestowitz Not Vista, either. Dec 07 00:09
schestowitz Unless Microsoft pay$ Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran “were thinking of buying a new pc” Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran hah Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran I didn’t recommend Vista either Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran they’re like, “but the posters” Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran “all lies” Dec 07 00:09
Eruaran they’re like, “why do you have them then” Dec 07 00:10
Eruaran “we get money” Dec 07 00:10
Eruaran And besides Dec 07 00:10
Eruaran I pointed to one vista poster where it said, “Simple, Secure, Stunning” Dec 07 00:10
schestowitz SS Dec 07 00:11
schestowitz Eh? Dec 07 00:11
schestowitz Tell them about WW2 Dec 07 00:11
schestowitz About Goebbels Dec 07 00:11
MinceR the stunning part is that they dare call it simple and secure Dec 07 00:11
Eruaran And said, “Its simply crap, you can be Secure in the knowledge that you don’t need it, and its Stunning how full of crap this poster is” Dec 07 00:12
Eruaran Its hilarious Dec 07 00:13
Eruaran People love it… we gain customers being so candid with people Dec 07 00:13
MinceR lol Dec 07 00:13
Eruaran We had a customer the other day who told us that is the reason why he comes to us Dec 07 00:14
Eruaran We tell him the truth Dec 07 00:14
Eruaran If we at any stage had stopped giving people our honest opinions and advice, we’d have egg on our faces today and would have lost our credibility. Dec 07 00:15
Eruaran Our customers are not the kind of people who just look for the cheapest price, or latest trendy thing. They want sound advice, reliability and piece of mind. Dec 07 00:17
schestowitz I used to give honest opinions too Dec 07 00:19
schestowitz I worked at a computer store when I was 18 Dec 07 00:19
schestowitz I didn’t fool the people and I have them the cheaper peripheral. That makes a /BAD/ salesman (not morally bad). Dec 07 00:19
schestowitz *gave Dec 07 00:20
Eruaran I’m lucky to be working in an environment where being a “trusted advisor” is a very important part of my job. Dec 07 00:20
schestowitz Even back then I had some people asking for h/w that works with Linux. Dec 07 00:20
schestowitz Trusted by /whom/? Microsoft? the client? Dec 07 00:21
Eruaran The client. Dec 07 00:21
schestowitz Microsoft plans to ‘pull an Apple’ and have rep^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hin stores to promote Fista. Dec 07 00:21
schestowitz They could replace a workforce of honest people with a puppet regime Dec 07 00:22
schestowitz Working based on the ‘headbook’ from the Vole. Dec 07 00:22
schestowitz *handbook Dec 07 00:22
Eruaran That sort of thing wont affect us Dec 07 00:22
Eruaran Stores like that don’t employ people who actually know what they’re talking about Dec 07 00:22
schestowitz Puppet shops Dec 07 00:26
schestowitz Like Dell and H-P Dec 07 00:26
Eruaran Even with Vista, people know they can bring a crippled, virus/spyware infested system to us and we can clean it up and return it to the customer running better than it ever has. Depending on how busy we are, they get it back same day or the next day. We know most places will just backup data and re-install. Dec 07 00:26
schestowitz Will Dell stil go high street? Dec 07 00:26
*kentma has quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host)) Dec 07 00:26
schestowitz It talked about it last year, but has collapsed a bit since. Dec 07 00:26
schestowitz Eruaran: see? Vista makes ‘jobs’. Not important jobs, but it keeps people coccupied and swapping AUDs Dec 07 00:27
Eruaran With on-site service, we actually give people solutions that work and help businesses/organizations etc. Rather than just band-aid their current crappy setup. Dec 07 00:28
schestowitz Dman that Lunux thing… people take it home and it just works and does what people need. It doesn’t break, so people don’t have unnecessary jobs created Dec 07 00:28
schestowitz http://www.robweir.com/blog/2007/01/broken-wi… Dec 07 00:28
Eruaran We actually had a falling out with a national franchise because we told them their system was broken. Dec 07 00:28
Eruaran They wanted us to get things working the way they wanted it… but the way they wanted things set up was inherently broken… We fixed it, but then they complained so we put things back the way they were before and told them the system is broken and you cant fix it unless youre willing to do things differently Dec 07 00:30
Eruaran They had local networks that didn’t work properly and head office wanting to have a VPN to stores using dialup or some crap like that… it screwed the stores systems up.. Dec 07 00:33
schestowitz Why are these things so complicated? Dec 07 00:33
schestowitz I never get it. Dec 07 00:33
schestowitz Like.. Dec 07 00:33
Eruaran They made it complicated Dec 07 00:33
schestowitz I hear about large deployments costing loads of money.. Dec 07 00:33
schestowitz .And I think most of the ‘work’ is spent by pointy-hairy people on the roundtable. Dec 07 00:34
schestowitz Some are adverse to progress because it’s “change” Dec 07 00:34
schestowitz Just look how many companies use an operating platform from 2001. Dec 07 00:35
schestowitz We’re almost in 2009, for crying out loud! Dec 07 00:35
kevin832 haha Dec 07 00:35
Eruaran The local stores (there are at least 3 in our city) were very happy with what we did… but their national  HQ chucked a frothy fit over it… stores were happy cause things were working great, HQ wasn’t happy cause they couldn’t have their stupid dialup VPN access… Dec 07 00:35
kevin832 reminds me of when people didn’t want ms to stop shipping updates for win98 Dec 07 00:35
schestowitz Had the same standards applied to gadgets people around (80%+ of them) would be using Sony walkmans to listen to music Dec 07 00:37
Eruaran I know of businesses that are still using DOS based POS software Dec 07 00:42
Eruaran DOS!!!! Dec 07 00:42
kevin832 they could always switch to freedos :) Dec 07 00:43
Eruaran I take one look at that and mutter, “bloody hell…” Dec 07 00:43
kevin832 even a single-user system just seems so outdated to me Dec 07 00:44
Eruaran no, they run this stuff on Windows 2000 Dec 07 00:44
Eruaran They only upgraded from NT like a year ago… Dec 07 00:44
schestowitz :-) Dec 07 00:45
schestowitz Winretro Dec 07 00:45
Eruaran :P Dec 07 00:45
schestowitz They should upgrade to Fista Dec 07 00:45
schestowitz Ruin compat’ Dec 07 00:45
schestowitz New prricy PC for DOS… Dec 07 00:45
Eruaran Sometimes I look at business setups and all I want to do is should, “ASSHATS!! ALL OF YOU GET OUT!!!” Dec 07 00:46
Eruaran *shout Dec 07 00:46
schestowitz I went to buy Fista and all I got was this lousy CLI prompt. Dec 07 00:46
Eruaran one place Dec 07 00:46
Eruaran they had this admin Dec 07 00:46
Eruaran I suggested they switch to linux as they could still run the old DOS stuff, they wouldn’t have to upgrade hardware and none of their systems would be brought down if the app crashes (which it did fairly regularly)… Dec 07 00:47
Eruaran She just looked at me as if I was a JW at her door Dec 07 00:48
kevin832 at my college, people would play pranks that stumped the IT staff Dec 07 00:48
kevin832 for example, someone used the graphics options to rotate the display upside down :) Dec 07 00:48
Eruaran hha Dec 07 00:48
Eruaran we used to change the college menu system Dec 07 00:49
Eruaran It would get changed from “South East Institute of TAFE” (this is a long time ago) to “TAFE’s Quick & Dirty Menu System” or “TEH NOOBIE MENU” Dec 07 00:50
kevin832 i knew a guy who (if he found a PC left logged in) would open tuns of windows, take a screenshot and make it the desktop background Dec 07 00:50
kevin832 lol Dec 07 00:50
Eruaran heh Dec 07 00:50
Eruaran we had a guy a while back who came in saying there was something wrong with his PC Dec 07 00:51
MinceR i’ve made this background once: http://winnie.nik.bmf.hu/mincer/… Dec 07 00:51
Eruaran It turned out that his friends had played a prank on him Dec 07 00:51
Eruaran Cause it wasn’t frozen, it was a screenshot… hehe Dec 07 00:52
MinceR (and randomly moved those same icons on it) Dec 07 00:52
kevin832 i miss that screensaver that used to be in ubuntu called “bsod” that would show panic messages from all different platforms Dec 07 00:52
kevin832 lol at the above screenshot… i hate it when i sit down at someone’s PC and their desktop is a mess Dec 07 00:53
MinceR i think it’s still in xscreensaver Dec 07 00:53
MinceR on my own machines, i disable desktop icons Dec 07 00:54
MinceR i don’t think icons belong there Dec 07 00:54

schestowitz “Criminals are taking advantage of a bug in the Asterisk Internet telephony system that lets them pump out thousands of scam phone calls in an hour, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation warned Friday. The FBI didn’t say which versions of Asterisk were vulnerable to the bug, but it advised users to upgrade to the latest version of the software.” Dec 07 01:08

  3. Windows Falls to 16% Market Share in India (It was 97% in 2009), Microsoft Layoffs Reach India Too

This month’s picture from the world’s most populous nation does not look good for Microsoft (it looks good for GNU/Linux); anonymous rumour mills online say that Microsoft isn’t moving to India but is actually firing staff based in India, so it’s a case of shrinking, not offshoring. When even low-paid (much lower salaries) staff is discarded it means things are very gloomy.

Weeks ago we warned that this would happen and for the third or fourth time in 2 years the OSI’s election process broke down; today the Open Source Initiative (OSI) writes: “The polls just closed, the results are in. Congratulations to the returning directors Aeva Black…” (Microsoft employee)

  8. Many More Microsoft Layoffs Later Today

Yesterday we shared rumours about Microsoft layoffs being planned for later today (there were 3 waves of layoffs so far this year). There are several more people here who say the same. How much noise will Microsoft make in the “media” in order to distract? Will the chaffbot "ChatGPT" help create enough chaff?

  10. Germany's Lobbyists-Infested Government Sponsors the War on Ukraine via the European Patent Office (EPO)

The chief UPC ‘judge’ is basically seeking to break the law (and violate constitutions, conventions etc.) to start a kangaroo court while dodging real courts, just like Vladimir Putin does

  11. [Meme] The Meme That Team UPC (the Collusion to Break the European Laws, for Profit) Threats to Sue Us For

António Campinos and Team UPC are intimidating people who simply point out that the Unified Patent Court (UPC) is illegal and Klaus Grabinksi, shown above, strives to head a de facto kangaroo court in violation of constitutions and conventions (the UK does not and cannot ratify; Ireland hasn’t even held a referendum on the matter)

  12. Microsoft is Sacking People Every Month This Year, Even Managers (While Sponsored Media Produces Endless Chatbot Chaff)

Lots of Microsoft layoffs lately and so-called ‘journalists’ aren’t reporting these; they’re too busy running sponsored puff pieces for Microsoft, usually fluff along the “hey hi” (AI) theme

  13. 3 Months Late Sirius 'Open Source' Finally Deletes Us From the Fraudulent 'Meet the Team' Page (But Still Lists Many People Who Left Years Ago!)

Amid fraud investigations the management of Sirius ‘Open Source’ finally removed our names from its “Meet the Team” page (months late); but it left in the page about half a dozen people who left the company years ago, so it’s just lying to its clients about the current situation

  14. Amid Fraud at Sirius 'Open Source' CEO Deletes His Recent (This Month) Past With the Company

Not only did the Sirius ‘Open Source’ CEO purge all mentions of Sirius from his Microsoft LinkedIn account; he’s racing against the clock as crimes quickly become a legal liability

  15. Web Survey Shows Microsoft Falling Below 15% Market Share in Africa, Only One Minuscule African Nation Has Windows Majority

A Web survey that measured Microsoft Windows at 97% in Africa (back in 2010) says that Windows has become rather small and insignificant; the Microsoft-sponsored mainstream media seems to be ignoring this completely, quite likely by intention...

  16. Rumours of More Microsoft Layoffs Tomorrow (Including Managers!), Probably Azure Again (Many Azure Layoffs Every Year Since 2020)

Amazon is laying off AWS staff and Microsoft has been laying off Azure staff for 3 years already, including this year, so it seems like the “clown computing” bubble is finally bursting

  18. The Photo Ops Festival of the Funky President António Campinos and Revolt From the Patent Examiners Whom He Perpetually Oppresses

European Patents are being granted for no reason other than application and renewal fees, awarding European monopolies to companies that aren't even European (only about a third are actually European); staff of the EPO is fed up as it regards or views all this as an extreme departure from the EPO's mission (and it's also outright illegal)
