The Web Site 'UNIXMen' (Run by Janus Atienza) is Still Posting SPAM, But Typically Hides This Under the RSS Feeds
THE WEB is getting worse each year. It worsens with age. Yes, age does not refine it; consider what happened to Wikipedia.
Last year we wrote a couple of times (or more) about what UNIXMen had become.
Many moons ago it was an OK site covering GNU/Linux. Looking at the front page, you would think things might be OK, but if you checked the RSS feed instead, the content is entirely different. Here is the front page right now:
Looks innocuous, right?
But the latest in the RSS feed:
We hope that with the highlights the linkspam is self-explanatory. It's mindless SEO (words' soup), not an attempt to cover a real topic.
It's not just UNIXMen doing this. It's a worrying, Web-wide phenomenon. Spam-farming (seeding spam in visible, indexed sites) can be disguised in all sorts of clever ways and shrewd tricks, typically designed to game Google and not even provide any information to human beings. A common objective is to elevate the ranking of some site/s for a targeted search term or Search Engine Results Page (SERP). █
