Truth is Not a Crime
"JOURNALISM (or Photography) is Not a Crime" is somewhat of a familiar adage/saying/proverb by now, even name/s of initiatives, sites, etc. "PINAC" is an acronym many people worldwide can recognise as Photography is Not a Crime.
Power tends to outright forbid whatever embarrasses power. It goes for investigative, vertical journalism, which may involve undercover footage, whistleblowing, intrusion of some kind (because the corrupt shield the truth from outside access). The same goes for "privacy". "PINAC" is typically about cops - e.g. evidence of reckless brutality or retaliation. Maybe it is defunct now (UK, not Florida, but both link to 2022). The site is no longer active, but there are ghosts.
What a tragic loss.
Hours ago Free Software Fellowship said: "The Fellowship alerted the community to the risk of Albanians Grooming Women for Outreachy in a news report in 2021. Shortly after this report, people began making desperate attempts to shut down this web site but we are still here."
This is so typical - to the breaking the Net. They try to censor, not to correct, rebut etc. This is the attitude of sore losers, who lack respect/regard for the truth.
Do not cave, make concessions or compromise with people who act in this fascistic fashion.
At the state level, the term "espionage" tends to get thrown around a lot, even if it's typically the states doing it.
It remains a real challenge to convince President Biden to formally pardon Julian Assange. Basically, Assange did not commit espionage, he was just virtually forced to admit that he had (in exchange for belated freedom).
People who still fail to understand what "espionage" is and why/how it has been misused (as a term) will simply see less and less journalism each year. Will they understand why, aside from the chilling effect? █
