Russia's Invasion of Ukraine Turns 6 Months; Windows Share in Russia Down Every Month Since Then (From Over 55% to 47%)

Earlier this year: Putin's Russia Loves It When Its Enemies Use Microsoft Windows | This Month, for the First Time, Microsoft Windows Share is Less Than 50% in Russia | Microsoft Windows Market Share in Russia in 2022: Down From 55% to 50% in 5 Months

Windows in Russia
The numbers as of this afternoon

Summary: The corporate/mainstream media is not talking about it, but Windows loses market share very rapidly and in Russia it lost about 15% (relative) of its share in about 6 months

THIS post is not about politics. It's purely about technology. Whenever we write about Ukraine and Russia we try to focus on technology. That's not to say other aspects don't matter; it's just that Techrights is a technology site.

"The demise of Windows is undeniable; with it, Microsoft too will suffer an epic demise."There has been a lot of media coverage lately -- or the past 3 months in particular -- about Russia's plan to move to GNU/Linux [1, 2]. Hardware/OEM/PC market may gradually be changing. There's domestic stuff for GNU/Linux. It even comes preloaded with it on desktops and phones. Might that help explain the demise of Windows?

Remember that Microsoft is laying off about 1 in 10 workers. The media has helped confuse the public about this, owing to Microsoft's operatives inside newsrooms. The demise of Windows is undeniable; with it, Microsoft too will suffer an epic demise.

As an associate put it, "for the last six months, [Windows] has been declining at a rate of about 1.3% per month, but picking up speed. OS X is approximately stable, iOS is growing ever so slightly and Android growing a bit faster. Plain GNU/Linux is more or less stable."

"Plain GNU/Linux" is a vague and generic thing; my browser (LibreWolf) reports or exposes itself as Firefox on Windows and many surveys, grappling with a broad range of distros and combinations, just classify Linux as "unknown" or "other". They also treat ChromeOS as a separate thing even though it's built on Gentoo.
