Free Software is Nourishment to Software Users, Unlike Proprietary Software
Software Freedom is about serving if not emancipating (not just enhancing capabilities of) the users. Software that the users are served by can be shaped by those users. Software that is therefore "accountable" to them (they can fork or move to forks of such software).
Software that is built on top of secret code is oppressing the users. Software that uses proprietary formats (for storing settings and user data) makes it harder for these users to escape.
Software ought to prioritise the needs of society or constituent members of it. In order for society to enjoy "human rights" it must ensure all software is free (libre). It can be collectively controlled by well-meaning members; if they're no longer well-meaning, they can be replaced and/or the software forked.
Software has been discussed quite a lot lately in the context of "human rights", but the shoddy corporate media says "hey hi" (AI) instead of "software" because we're meant to think everything is now "AI" (it helps keep the bubble inflated for a little while longer).
The notion of "human rights" borrows a lot from "animals' rights" though "animals" (as labelled) are presumed "non-human" and therefore inferior or worthy of de-prioritising. That's nonsense. People who have pet dogs and cats (we prefers other pets*) would strongly object to that unless they're sick sociopaths.
The idea that we ought to accept "software masters" - and/or software users are merely "users" (like "animals") - is unworthy of preserving. We need to remember that software developers are also users and every user can become a developer of software s/he uses... provided it is Free software.
Quit treating "mere users" of software "like animals". Every user is a "human being" and assuming we're all equal, we deserve equal access to the code. █

* When writing articles I am almost always surrounded by animals, mostly birds and fish. They inspire me, they keep me calm and somewhat focused too. Some birds force me to take short breaks (to feed them from the bottle). We can identify and they have names, e.g. "bottle" and "neck" (together they are "bottle-neck"; we adopted them 2 years ago and they visit regularly). Pets are loyal friends.
