Matt Asay got it arm sort of twisted (
again) for criticism of Novell.
Zonker
stroke back after
Matt Asay had been swinging.
It’s interesting that, given the scope and potential implications of Microsoft’s announcement, Matt’s first response is to go after Novell again. He does backtrack a bit after he notices that the pledge is only for non-commercial entities, but says nothing of the anti-Novell shot he took before fully digesting the details of the Microsoft announcement.
Speaking of "digesting the details of the Microsoft announcement," as we wrote half an hour ago, it seems likely that Asay got used, exploited by Microsoft.
He was not alone.

I was actually sad to see Zonker joining Novell. He's a brilliant writer (one of my favourite) and Novell (OpenSUSE aside for the matter) finds shelter in its proprietary roots and legacy. They could use someone who 'gets' open source at the management/board level, not one that exploits it (Ellison comes to mind).
