The Illusion of Choice: Apple Prison Versus Microsoft Prison
THE overwhelmingly large majority of people in every developed (rich) county have been connected to the Net - a propaganda, surveillance and censorship apparatus of unprecedented scale - and then conned into false dichotomies. To them, like the two whale tanks on the side, there's a "choice"...
Android or iOS?
Windows or MacOS?
But how good are those choices? Are people presented with two brands that are controlled by similar handlers, such as the NSA and other extensions of the US administration?
To us, since the early days, it was a paradigm issue, not a "brand" issue. We're totally OK with the BSDs too. The goals are almost the same, but the trajectories (e.g. licences) differ a little.
A remaining challenge for us - for all of us - is to convince people that the solution isn't to drop one "brand" in favour of another but to radically change one's expectations regarding data ownership/control, machine access, and freedom to run anything (even if the Linux Foundation puts forth DRM-like obstructions, under the guise of "security"). We'll cover this issue separately.
Abolish the prisons, encourage and reward good behaviour. The prisons should be reserved for people like Bill Gates and Nadella, whom he is reportedly micromanaging one third of his time. █
