A Googlebombing Campaign Targeting "Gemini" Takes on E-mail, Too

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Dec 07, 2023

Google can do Googlebombing too (the term is even named after it)

Search Engine Optimization

THE "gemini" name is not trademarked in the area of technology (at least not in a way that would be easily enforced in a court), as there are computer devices (running Linux) among other things that already use the name. It's not new, it has gone on for decades and after all it's also a Zodiac Sign. But over the past half a decade Gemini Protocol has become increasingly used and widely recognised in several contexts, including GemText syntax.

As noted this morning, after some delays, Google-centric (sometimes Google-funded or Google-reliant) sites began bombarding the word (name, term, whatever!) "gemini" in relation to something else completely, obscuring any mentions of the thing that threatens Google's Net dominance (by essentially bypassing the Web). My wife complained to me that her RSS feeds were getting filled up by this 'fake' (new) "Gemini" thing that was not in fact the Gemini thousands of capsules and millions of people speak about.

Google launches AI model challenging OpenAI? Copyleaks Insights on Gemini

Hey Roy,

Google has introduced Gemini, its latest large language model, marking a significant step in the AI landscape to rival OpenAI's GPT-4. Gemini, available in three versions, distinguishes itself with advanced capabilities in understanding and interacting with video and audio, positioning it for integration into various Google products and services worldwide.

So how many millions of people get those sorts of spammy E-mail messages (unsolicited marketing spam)?

We'll say more about Gemini and the Web in our next video. Google is being very evil and the tactic of hijacking names is very Microsoft-inspired. Remember that Google hires from Microsoft more than any other company.
