The Free Software Foundation Lost Andrew Engelbrecht and Devin Ulibarri, But is Joined by Dr. Krzysztof Siewicz

Dr. Krzysztof Siewicz

Staff changes happen everywhere, but these aren't always formally announced

TODAY in IRC we discussed the Free Software Foundation's (FSF) blog, as it has not been active lately. In the process we discovered that some people left. Looking at the staff page (latest compared to last year) we can see what they are willing to reveal. And sure, companies tend not to openly announce departures, so outsiders must get tips from insiders or do the legwork based on publicly-facing material...

One new addition is Dr. Siewicz. Krzysztof Siewicz introduced himself 4 days before Christmas and the profile at the FSF's site days: "Krzysztof (Chris) started as the Free Software Foundation's licensing and compliance manager in October 2023. He holds a doctorate in legal studies from Universiteit Leiden, the Netherlands, for a thesis which discussed the optimal framework for the protection of software freedom. His experience includes practicing law in Poland, advocating, and educating in the area of free and permissive licensing in various projects carried out by NGOs, educational, academic, and cultural institutions from Poland and other EU member states. Krzysztof also worked as a project coordinator, including in software development."

Dr. Miriam Bastian was added too, so it is a net loss of 0 (was 9 a year ago, still 9, based on their Web site at least). The FSF attracted 2 people with doctoral degrees. Not bad...

It can be added that the Board has not changed and "voting members" are still just that same Board plus Alexandre Oliva, i.e. no change in years. Seems stable, no doors opening and closing.

As far as we can tell the FSF did not communicate the above departures. For transparency's sake it would be wiser to do so.
