Reddit is a Linux-Hostile Censorship and FUD Machine

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Oct 16, 2023

I placed this exact question on Reddit forum expecting a answer since they have detailed documentation and the post was removed. The reason I am making this inquiry is it appears they are not putting out the same updates to all users for the same system.

THE articles by Ryan Farmer repeatedly mentioned how Reddit had been censoring pro-GNU/Linux voices and, to make matters worse, the moderators in charge of GNU/Linux sections were pro-Microsoft or Microsoft apologists, gaslighting readers while Reddit takes loads of sponsorship money for PR campaigns of Microsoft (e.g. Internet Explorer). We've written a great deal about this trend at Reddit for a very long time, going back to around 2007.

Today one reader told us that Reddit censorship is nothing new but few realise the extent or scope. Reddit was flagged as no-no by me in 2007 because I saw it was simply a Novell/Microsoft censorship machine and didn't quite explore the censorship in other topics/sections.

Generally speaking, as a journalist or an activist, everywhere you go it's like this; when you criticise the rich you need to compete against bribed social control media, bribed ("sponsored") media and even fake/vandalised "encyclopedias" that any company can edit (in its own favour). Yes, I'm looking at you, "WIKIPEDIA"! Governments do the same thing, either directly or indirectly (PR/AstroTurfing firms).

Reddit just became part of the same thing the moment it became big, even over 15 years ago...

Reddit is neither "community" nor a voice of "the people"; it's a very heavily (but secretly) censored forum controlled by a media and advertising company based around the corner from Wall Street. The example above should be a timely reminder of it. Want to upload porn to Reddit? OK. Apparently lots of people also upload pedophilia to Reddit.

Just make sure you don't post GNU/Linux material in GNU/Linux sections. It distracts from the "Microsoft loves Linux" fairy tales and other corporate "stories". They heavily censor sites like ours. And for those who should know better, please stop participating in Reddit. Let it just rot.
