Expect Many More Microsoft Layoffs After the Latest Windows Outages (Bonus: More Media Says Microsoft Has Cut Half the Staff in Nigeria)
TODAY we saw yet more media reports (this time from Ghana) suggesting that half of Microsoft workers in Nigeria have been laid off. Given trends shown this past week, it oughtn't be surprising. As of today, judging by statCounter, Windows is down to 26.3% worldwide - a new low. In Nigeria it's even lower and in Africa much lower. It's probably not worth bothering to do marketing there, as Windows has no chance of a rebound. People are not interested in "hey hi PCs" (expensive garbage), they just need to get some basics or simple things done.
Speaking of simple things getting done, today this capsule and the sister capsule got 100,000+ Gemini requests in the first half of the day. We recently got even more than that and the record high for the Techrights Gemini capsule is over 300,000 in one day.
statCounter measures usage based on Web requests, not other requests. This past week some GNU/Linux and BSD news sites - even mailing lists - covered Gemini.
The bottom line is, fewer people use Windows these days and after the latest worldwide blunder we can expect many businesses to gradually ditch Windows. This will mean many more Microsoft layoffs. The dinosaur will go extinct. █
