Happy October!
I can't believe it's already October! Time went so quickly since my last update. Work has been very intense, and after spending most of my day every day in front of a screen, I could not make myself turn on my computer again to work on personal projects.
I am currently sitting on my couch, have made myself a nice lemon and ginger tea, and lit a scented candle. It's sunny outside: a lovely Fall day.
This will be my last Sunday at my apartment for a while as my partner is moving to Warsaw for work this Thursday, and I will be joining him for 3 weeks on Friday. I am very excited about this new chapter in my life! I have never been to Warsaw, but I know it's beautiful, and I am really looking forward to exploring it.

Luck and Dishonesty
I hate to say it, but my gut reaction at the start of the article was sympathy for the postdoc. There's no reason to ever commit fraud, that's for sure, but academia is so precarious. The standards for success in a field are ambiguous and always increasing, and so many of the things that determine if a researcher will succeed, especially early in their career, is out of their control.
You need to have the right kind of topic. There are plenty of questions you could investigate, but if it isn't trendy (or you can't tell a story of how it connects to a trend) at the time of publication, you already have a major disadvantage.

rejecting the muzzle
I joined 32bit Cafe. Seemed cool. A positive place to discuss elements of hobbyist computing, Smol Web, etc. Then I read the FAQ - very limiting in conversational scope, self-censoring, blatantly specific on what CAN and CANNOT be said.
Indeed, their forums, their rules - my time online, my avoidance of such nonsense
I also joined retrocomputingforums.com, and hopefully I can yammer BS on there with a little more "freedom" (we are all always free to do whateverthefuck we want, just to be mindful of others, and also that other platforms can remove anyone they want). So, I will likely stick w/ rc forums, and negate 32b cafe. I wanted to list Ctrl-ZINE in 32b cafe, but if they zine makes its way to their smol web recommnendations section, they can do whatever, I won't make an effort to list it anywhere other than Ctrl-c.club

Gaming
Something's happened to my love of gaming, or at least what games I'm able to enjoy. I can't really get into most modern games if I'm playing by myself, but some I can enjoy when I'm playing with a few friends. Satisfactory and Factorio are two such titles, where if I'm by myself, it's boring beyond tolerance, but when I'm with my mates and friends, I'm able to have fun with them. Minecraft and Necesse are two more where they seem like they'd be a great time while I'm on my own, but no, I can't really have fun unless I'm with friends or family.

Internet
I used to spend a lot of time on the computer and on the internet.
Now, the less I use it, the better.
It's not like I don't appreciate it, on the contrary, I appreciate it a lot more now.
I appreciate it for what it's good for, I don't overuse it, and I try not to use it wrongly.
I try not to make it affect me negatively.

Getting the chawan web browser running on haiku
i had been trying to get the chawan [1] web browser building on haiku for some time but kept running into compile snags here or there. chawan is a text-mode (like lynx) web browser that also supports smolnet protocols (built in gemini ftw).

Asynchronous secure file transfer with nncp
nncp (node to node copy) is a software to securely exchange data between peers. Is it command line only, it is written in Go and compiles on Linux and BSD systems (although it is only packaged for FreeBSD in BSDs).
