PCLinuxOS Turns 20 (Twenty!)
THE media is intentionally selective (like how it covers - or not - GNU's long and accomplished history versus Linux history). It likes to talk about the age of Debian and Slackware (now Fedora as well), but how about PCLinuxOS? For a long time it was ranked #1 in DistroWatch and it's still around, not only "kicking" but also cushioned by a monthly publication of the PCLinuxOS Magazine! Tux Machines, which is only a few months younger than PCLinuxOS (it used to be run by the partner of PCLinuxOS's founder), has written about this in passing [1, 2], but no other site mentioned the important anniversary.
We wish PCLinuxOS the best of things and hope that PCLinuxOS, being the community distro that it is, can gain more users at the expense of IBM, Canonical, Intel and so on.
The world needs more distros like PCLinuxOS, which is sadly ignored by increasingly corporate sites like Phoronix. █
