April 12, 2024 - Feria, Mass of Preceding Sunday - Low Sunday (W)
As newborn babes, alleluia, desire the rational milk without guile, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Psalm: Rejoice to God our Helper, sing aloud to the God of Jacob.
Glory be to the Father. As newborn babes, alleluia, desire the rational milk without guile, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The Precarious World
My last entry, and the first on this iteration of my gemlog was all about stubbornness rather than hope. About the refusal to give up on the world even when all that is ahead seems bleak, because the horrors are unending but so is the love. I still believe that, but as usual, my stubbornness is wavering.
I've been starving and unmedicated, mostly due to my own shitty management of my own body and finances, and it's cemented the idea that on a personal level, I am not fit to continue the pretense that I am a functional adult. That I am deserving of life or help. I wanted to help myself, I wanted to learn how to be better, kinder, to everyone else, even to myself, but I can't.

Blur
I need to quit my current job. There are a number of reasons for this, but I'm only going to talk about one today.
The thing is that it's boring. I can amuse myself moment to moment, checking my phone or even reading a book. But it is boring in a deeper way. It is a too familiar routine, and so the day makes little to no impression on my memory. I keep a journal, and even that record cannot keep the days from running together. It is very frequent for me to fill many more pages of description of what I did on the weekend than on workdays, even if all that amounted to was sitting and staring at a computer at home instead of at work. -
Glad I'm not better.
Goodevening. Now that I have been finally settled for a couple days, it feels weird to be in my grandparents' house when they aren't there. It's really like something is missing, but I guess I am getting used to it.
I have a midterm in around half a week or so and I can't study when I'm out of town. It is cybersecurity so it's mostly common sense, no? Just hope they don't make it as hard/vague as the practice questions we got are.

these things are Evil
Three nights I've stayed in this wretched town. Three nights of the tormented cries of the gal sat outside the house not one building farther than the tavern in which I write now.
She has all my sympathies.

hi
setting: it's late, the night air is warm and smells fresh with the woods nearby. the crescent moon glows behind slowly drifting clouds. makes me want to re-read a certain series of books again (hi, i was obsessed with the raven cycle).

Lindwyrm Lockbox
In the midst of Everything Else *gestures tiredly at Everything Else* I made a supplement for Lindwyrm because why not?

sin done in water
The machine paused and hung its head in despair. The wooden staff with a single green twig growing out of it clenched in its mechanical hand swayed from side to side, as the sentient computer contemplated its message.
The child sat before it, an elder laptop with a large crack in its bezel in its lap purred, both patiently awating the machine's next words, but nothing else left its speakers and the staff slowly stopped swaying.

Specification changes, quarterly release numbering, and more plans
Today I have pushed updates to the official Project Gemini capsule to the effect that the two separate specification documents, one for the Gemini network protocol (very closely descended from that written by Sean Conner during my absence from leadership, with collaboration from many others via Gitlab, to all of whom I am most grateful) and one for the "gemtext" hypertext format (written by me but with the layout and overall style heavily influened by Sean's protocol spec), are now the official and authoritative sources on what Gemini is. Ye olde combined and less formal (but still formal enough to avoid any major interoperability issues for close to five years) has been renamed as a "technical overview", with the clear caveat that in the event it contradicts either of the formal specifications, those specs take precedence. It is, for now, mostly the very same document it ever was, but in the near future it will be lightly edited to include less exhaustive technical detail, which is now supposed to be the domain of the formal specs, and perhaps more explanation about the context and consequences of certain design points, which I still feel to be of wide interest and value, but which is also somewhat out of scope for the formal specs which are just supposed to be raw hard technical truth.

a metaverse noob checklist a hard way [this post is WIP still]
I guess I'll be documenting my progress towards completing these steps here.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
